Volunteer – Current Opportunities (updated March 2025):

• DISTRIBUTION STOCKER – Check and replenish food stocks in the Distribution area when food bank is running, including refilling empty fridges, freezers and shelves. When not replenishing, assist in the warehouse, helping to receive, weigh, sort, and store donated and purchased foods.   REQUIRED SKILLS: Physical strength and ability to lift food bins repeatedly (up to 50 lbs), high energy and stamina.  This can be fast-paced! Ability to be on feet for a few hours is important.    MONDAYS, 10:00 – 3:00.  Apply here.

 

• WAREHOUSE MAINTENANCE & RECEIVING – Unload food recovery donations as they arrive and place in the appropriate location (fridge/freezer/dry storage).  Keep the warehouse in an acceptable and safe condition.  The M&R volunteer will be trained on lift truck, safety, and safe food handling practices.   Skills:  Ability to problem solve and make decisions, lift 40-50 lbs, comfortable on feet for a few hours. • DRIVER FOR FOOD RECOVERY – Recover donated food items from local grocery stores.  REQUIRED SKILLS:  Clean driving abstract, comfortable driving large vehicle, ability to lift 50+ lbs, good customer relations skills, self-directed.  Available shifts:  THURSDAY OR SATURDAY MORNINGS, 8:15 – 11:30 AM.  Apply here.

 

• CLEAN TEAM – Assist with cleaning and maintaining various areas of our food bank, including the sorting and distribution area, donation bay, intake office and reception area. The tasks will involve cleaning surfaces such as tables and chairs, wiping down doors and fridge handles, sweeping and mopping floors, and ensuring all areas are tidy and well-maintained. The team will play a crucial role in maintaining a clean and organized environment for our operations.  THURSDAYS, 9:00 – 11:00 AM.  Apply here.

 

• COMMUNITY EVENTS TEAM – Help spread the word about The Sharing Place at various 3rd party events throughout the year.  This involves setting up a folding table/booth and/or collecting donations through our TipTapPay console.  If you don’t know much about The Sharing Place, we’ll teach you!  If you love talking to people, this role is for you.  Weekend availability a must.  Apply here.

Volunteers are the backbone of The Sharing Place Food Centre.

Without their dedication and commitment, we would not be able to support our members or run our programs.

We are looking for volunteers who can commit to a regular schedule, on the same day each week. Keeping a regular schedule helps us to provide members with high-quality service. It also allows our volunteers to become comfortable in their roles and build a rapport with the same team each week.
